Open Question: Getting a loan with bad credit, but I have a cash savings to use as collateral?
My boyfriend is trying to get a used car from a car dealership. Right now, he’s in school and does not have a job. He did work last year, until Sept., when he quit because the hours conflicted with school. He has received a tax refund, and it is enough to put a large down payment on a car,but the dealerships are always asking for a co-signer. He tried his parents but they were both denied. So now he has no co-signer and no job to help him pre-qualify. Is there a way to get an auto loan or personal loan using a large cash savings as collateral. His credit is not very good, so he thought maybe he could get a loan, so he can pay cash for a used car. Does anyone know if banks or loan lenders do this? I really would appreciate professional answers or answers from people with experience. Thanks.
UPDATE!!! My boyfriend does have money saved to pay a $300-$400 car payment plus insurance. He’s able to get a new job once he has reliable transportation to get to where he needs to go without relying on friends. His large cash savings is money from his tax refund and school refund. It’s only enough to help him put a down payment on a car and pay living expenses and bills. Every dealership he has been to has agreed that they will accept his down payment but he does not have a proper co-signer and he does not want to spend all his money to pay cash for a car, bc how will he eat and pay bills. He’s trying to find a secured loan that will allow him to use a savings as collateral since secured loans are for people with no so good credit, and come use collateral if repayment fails. Does anyone know of any websites or loan companies that offer this? I’m not lending him any money, he just wants to get a loan to help pay cash for a used car. ONLY PROFESSIONAL ANSWERS PLEASE!!
