Open Question: Becoming a police officer during harsh times?
I’ am 19 years old, trilingual. Russian, English, and Spanish. I’ am highly considering a career in law enforcement. I understand that F.B.I would be a recommended place to start, but I’ am not interested In F.B.I at this moment. Patrol officer is what I’ am going for. From my understanding gathered while conducting a ride along last night. One of the things departments look for is someone who has life experience, that would mean someone who is dependent, and not living with parents. I’ ve made many friends within my local department who will assist me in employment, my concern doesn’t fall within their reach. As much as I would love to move out, I do not have the right salary to do so, and unfortunately the job I’ am interested in that would provide me with that salary is law enforcement. Basically I cant go out looking for a job, when I’ am applying for another job. What would be a good approach to this. I’ ll be 20 in march which is the minimum requirement to apply, but will not be working until 21 that’s only if I get in. Mean while, I’ am life guarding to pay for my car insurance and my phone. Education is something I’ am planning for after I get the job, so I can pay for it. Student loan is another option, but it will not pay for my car, or my insurance.

Open Question: Question about student loans?
I’ am highly considering a career in law enforcement and would like to pursue my education in a field of criminal justice. I’ am 19 years old, I still live with my parents who are not willing to help me out trough college, I’ am pretty much on my own on this one. I have a part time job as a lifeguard and only make enough to pay for my car, insurance, phone and credit card bills. Although I will be trying to apply to various departments, but while I’ am waiting since this proses takes time I would like to attend school and work towards my degree. My questing is, are there any loans which will cover more than just units and books, one of the things many departments would like to see is responsibility and dependence, and living with my parents dose not fall under that category. Moving out, is also a big step and my part time life guarding is pretty much a dead end job. Finding another job, will only put restrictions on my schedule, and applying for a police department is nearly impossible. Are there any options available for people like me?
