Open Question: Oklahoma. How much of our taxes go for food stamps?
We are barely making it, when I see our tax debt it makes me wonder how much of my tax dollars go to food stamps. It really makes me mad. I come from a very poor family, but I made sure that I bettered myself. So that I could always support my family. I have never ever relied on government assistance, but it seems like it is just the norm now days. My kids and I really struggled but I paid their way. I did not expect everyone else to do it!
In Oklahoma food stamps are both a state program as well as federal program. Oklahoma may be a small, poor state, but at least we have the brains to know that you cannot just print money, unlike many of our other states seem to think. Oklahomans live within their means, we do not borrow more money than we have the ability to pay back just so we can “Look Good”

My question is can a bill collector garnish my small business bank account, even when the debt in question is not business related but personal? Open Question: Government assistance for a small business owner with no income in over 18 months – HELP !!!?
My brother is a mortgage broker & lives in Cleveland, Ohio. He has run his business out of his home for the last 7 years so he can stay home to take care of his kids. He is recently divorced & has not had any income to speak of in over 18 months. The problem is he has not been able to find a job in this economy & because he owns his own business he is not eligible for state assistance ( welfare, food stamps etc.) He is living off of his credit cards & small business loans but he is so far in debt that will soon come to an end. Is anyone aware of any form of assistance available for business owners? I think this is ridiculous that he is not able to get any financial assistance. You are better off not trying to make something of yourself & just sit back & collect everyone else’s hard earned money. Please if you know of any type of help it would be greatly appreciated. He has joint custody of his two kids also. You would think even the government would realize they need food & basic necessities when they are with him. I am desperate to help him out before it’s too late.

Charting the recession. Contra some anti-alarmists, the fact that unemployment is “only” 7.6 percent isn’t the point. The point is the *trend line*. We’re heading down very, very steeply, with no end in sight. “How bad is it?” is the wrong question. “How bad will it get?” is the right question.
