Open Question: lower mortgage payments through bankruptcy courts?
The House has passed legislation to give debt-strapped homeowners a chance to win lower mortgage payments through bankruptcy courts.

The bill gives bankruptcy judges new power to reduce the interest rate and principle on a home mortgage. It’s part of President Obama’s housing rescue plan.

but without jobs how is this plan going to help people who cant afford to make even the smallest of payments?
Besides doesn’t being approved for bankruptcy prove you cant afford the house your in?

I don’t know this sounds like such a stupid idea…
what do you all think?
checksinthemail
there is a class action to prevent this from coming to pass… A lot of investors argue that it breaks simple contract law… hate to side with the greedy you know what’s… but they are right

Open Question: IRS debt help?!………?
My mom is in debt to the IRS. She says she owes arond $25,000 and is looking for a tax lawyer. She was with Tax Advocate and payed them $1,500 to reduce how much she owes and they reduced it to $10,000, or so they claim. Then, the abrutly sent a letter saying that they were no longer going to represent her because she wasn’t sending paperwork in on time, when she says she did because she needed the help that badly and couldn’t afford to screw around. I told her to call them, but she won’t and wants another lawyer. But, I suggested instead of sitting on her hands waiting for a tax lawyer ad to come on television, she should call the IRS and get on a payment plan of $500 a month. It might take a while, but it would be better than pumping money into these tax lawyers that stop working for you because of something you say didn’t happen.

If this makes any difference, she’s behind so much on her taxes because she had some accountant file her taxes for about 4 years and each year, he made the same mistake on her taxes which gave her a bigger refund than what she should’ve gotten. I think it was because she does in-home child care and that’s what screwed him up.

What should she do? Someone suggested she sell her house, but I think the housing market is too bad for her to get anywhere near what the house is worth.

Open Question: How can a soldier on state orders not be entitled to Subsistence Allowance?
My husband is on his second deployment, this time to Afghanistan, a year ago he was in Kosovo. For this deployment he was attached to and engineer battalion, he is a medic. Anyway…this deployment is different from the last in that he was on federal orders from the beginning of pre deployment training last time so everything regarding pay went thru the federal red tape and therefore less mess ups. This time he was on state (virginia) orders for much of his pre-mob training and towards the end of the training the state of Va stopped paying him (and the rest of his people) subsistance allowance. And starting with the latest LES have started deducting what was paid to him previously to them cutting it off. He started getting subsistance allowance again as soon as he was on federal orders. Now they are taking his pay to repay this DEBT?!?!?! It was my understanding whether on state or federal orders that he was entitled to Basic, BAH and Subsistance. The federal government sees it that way and has done so for both deployments. It is only the state who seems to think they dont have to pay soldiers. Does anyone understand this?? Give me some insite, some way to fight this. Emails to senator were given the routine…”This is not my area..cant help you” largely para-phrased but pretty much the political run around. I dont think we should have to repay something that is rightfully my husbands. How is it that state orders can reduce a soldiers pay?
Nasty Girls….very nice! Ever since he rejoined as Nat Guard its been one fight after another. (He was active ARMY during the first gulf war, sent to Iraq, won bronze star.) He’s gonna go Active Army at the end of this deployment. Thanks for all the opinions. Pretty much as we figured..just have to ride it out till he’s out of the guard and back to the real ARMY.
